MENTORING AND SO MUCH MORE
Name: Jamie Allen
What’s your favorite food?
Favorite healthy food is marinated grilled chicken breast with A1 sauce. Not so healthy... Buffalo wings
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Besides my children, being the first in my family to graduate college, mentoring the youth, becoming a Christian, joining the ranks of the greatest fraternity in the world Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, I would say starting my freelance business.
What are some of your major goals in life?
To become financially independent is a major one and to constantly build my children up to become great.
If you could learn one random skill, what would you learn?
I would love to learn how to play the guitar and piano
What do you think is one of the most undervalued professions right now? Besides photography (wink) I think graphic design is very undervalued. Anyone who has a copy of Photoshop considers themselves a designer and have know idea what color theory or typography is. SMH!
What’s your favorite dessert?
Buckeyes (peanut butter balls covered 3/4 with chocolate leaving a part of the ball exposed to resemble the nut)
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A big fat boy with a big fat butt, haha! (an old saying that one of my elder family members use to say to me). Seriously, I knew that I was going to be some sort of artist.
If someone asked you to give them a random piece of advice, what would you say?
Live your life as if you are writing your own obituary.
What are some things that make you really happy?
Hugs and kisses from my daughters
What was the last thing you did to help someone else?
While I don't like receiving personal accolades for what I do for others, I will share one thing. I mentor a disadvantaged child that I kind of feel that I'm the beneficiary because the smiles, hugs and appreciation he gives me is overwhelming.
Which member of your family would you like to be stranded on a desert island with?
My kids because I am the big bad protector, haha!
What activity helps you feel peace of mind?
Drinking a cup of green tea. It forces me to slow down for a moment to reflect and enjoy my thoughts. Plus throwing around weights in the gym.
If you were going to show me the place you grew up, what would be the most significant point in the tour?
The football stadium where I played and had some great memories with some great people.
When was the last time you astonished yourself?
Being my own worst critic, I would say that that day has yet to come.
If you had an extra $100 to spend on yourself every week, what would you do?
Stack it in a rainy day fund. Not much I really want materialistically speaking. Well, maybe the latest Apple products!
If you could sit down with your 15-year old self, what would you tell him or her?
Whatever you do in life, see it through, never give up, trust in your abilities and keep God first. Oh, and never trust a big butt and a smile, haha!
What final thoughts would you like to share?
I want to thank you for your friendship and the fact that you continue to be an inspiration to me through your works. I think it's very cool and an honor that you would interview me. Stay inspiring with your beautiful soul!
